Duorama for iPhone Duo
Duorama is a vintage film camera built for iPhone Duo. Half-fold it, hold it at your waist and look down into the glass, like the box cameras of the late 1950s. Every picture is a square frame on a roll of 12.
A waist-level camera is held low, at your chest or waist, while you look down into a viewfinder on its top instead of raising it to your eye. Box cameras and twin-lens cameras of the 1950s worked this way: the picture appears on a sheet of ground glass under a folding hood, square and reversed left to right. Holding the camera low gives a lower point of view and helps keep it steady. Duorama brings this way of shooting to iPhone Duo. Half-fold the phone: the half with the cameras stands up and faces your subject, and the flat half becomes the ground glass you look down into, with an etched grid, a bright centre and darker corners.
Yes: Duorama is a waist-level camera app for iPhone Duo. The waist-level finder needs iPhone Duo, because it uses the fold: one half faces your subject while you look down into the other. Close the phone, or open it out flat, and the same camera works at eye level. On any other iPhone with iOS 18 or later, Duorama works as an eye-level camera with the same films and rolls.
Turn the exposure ring in click stops, set a shutter speed from 1/15 to 1/1000 or leave it on A, and roll the zoom wheel or tap between the classic and wide views. A small counter on the film back shows how far the phone is folded. Swipe down on the glass to close the hood, and up to open it.
Roll the film card to change film. Each film has its own look and its own roll: Sunday, soft colour; Graphite, black-and-white; Keepsake, faded and warm; and Postcard, vivid colour.
Instrument, Heirloom and Atelier: the same camera in cool bright chrome, warm and lived-in, or graphic with a coloured enamel for each film.
